We would like to invite you to our next event in the “Cinema Rosa” film club.
KUHLE WAMPE, OR WHO OWNS THE WORLD?
Director: Slatan Dudow; Script: Bertolt Brecht/Ernst Ottwalt; Music: Hanns Eisler
The Weimar era film classic is regarded a milestone of political cinema. It tells the story of the working-class family Boenicke in Berlin. Survival at a time of massive unemployment during the Great Depression is very difficult. The family is forced to leave their apartment in Berlin and moves to Kuhle Wampe, a lakeside camp on the outskirts of the big city. Among the most famous scenes are hundreds of bicyclists looking for work, the political debate in a tram, competitions of workers’ sport organisations and the solidarity song by Ernst Busch. Based on the aesthetics of Sergei Eisenstein, the movie had a strong influence on film culture. It was banned by the Nazis in 1933.
